Hitman Tommy's Gaming Goals for 2015

As promised I said I’d be back shortly with my 2015 gaming goals. If you haven’t seen and are interested to see how I did on my 2014 goals please read the post below this. Last year I had a good mix between collecting goals and playing goals. However this year I think will probably be a little bit more about playing the games. So without further ado here are Hitman Tommy’s 2015 Gaming Goals!

1.Find 25 more NES Cartridges for my collection.

This may not seem like very much but again it’s been difficult to find carts that I need in good shape and a good price. It was a real uphill climb to reach last year’s goal of 41, and actually almost half of my pickups from last year were a result of my trip to Calgary to go to the Expo. This year we don’t really have any intention on attending the Calgary Expo mainly due to other responsibilities and so far there hasn’t been anyone announced that will make us drive the 13 hours. That being said regardless of who they have for guests or not the Calgary Expo is a great time so if you’re in the area; buy a ticket and go you won’t regret it. Anyways as I was saying almost half of my 41 came from the trip last year so 25 seems like a good round number to strive for.  It’s about 15% of what I’m missing from my collection and I feel it’s a solid amount to try for. It’s about 2 per month which fits well with my budget as the days of finding carts locally for $3-$5 a piece is long over and I’ll probably have to dump a bit more cash into or resort to online sources.

2.Complete Five X-box 360 games

This is a repeat goal from last year. I only completed 2 Xbox games last year (excluding XBLA games). 2014 was really about the Wii U for me and found more often than not if I found some free time that I’d play it as opposed to the Xbox. I have so many Xbox games that I have never even tried simply cause anything that I could find for a few dollars at a pawn shop I would buy and in 2014 I also corrected that and tried to only pick up things that I thought I would actually play. I also ditched a few titles that I knew would never see the light of day. However I still have so many Xbox games that I tend to suffer from the “I have too much to play” syndrome and usually results in me playing nothing at all. This year I think my tactic is that I’m going to just randomly pick a game, no researching how long it takes to beat or trying to make some convoluted plan on how I’m going to do it. Just pick a game beat it and move on. We’ll see how that goes.

**Note Since I started writing this I decided my first Xbox 360 game of 2015 will be Tomb Raider**

3.Beat one game for 10 different consoles/handhelds

One thing that was definitely missing from my 2014 list was a lack of retro gaming goals. My retro systems get more consistent use than anything else in my arsenal so it makes sense that I should have some type of goal. However I didn’t want to box myself into a corner by making it console specific. If I said beat 10 SNES games that’s all well and good but I know that anytime I went to play something else I’d be like “you should be playing something on Super Nintendo”. While I still want to have some type of goal surrounding this I still want 2015 to be more about playing what I want to play and not feeling like I have to play something. This goal is separate from the X-Box goal so when I beat my first 360 game for the year it doesn’t count towards the 10. I feel like I haven’t played my Sega CD or 3DO in awhile so maybe I’ll start there.

4. Five of my Biggest Wants for 2015

I’ve seen a few other people making a list like this of games they would like to acquire during the year so I figured I would do the same with some of the games I’ve been dying to get so I can play them. I’ll combine the entire list as one goal. So the Top 5 non-NES games I hope to find in 2015 are:

1.Professor Layton and The Last Specter -NDS

2.Secret of Mana -SNES

3.Blazing Lazers -TG16

4.Grandia- PS1

5.Dragon's Revenge- GEN

And that's it I'm only going to name 4 goals this year which is just as well as these will take up the majority of my time and money to complete as it is. Anyways I'm looking forward to another great year in 2015 and hopefully you stick around to see what else we have in store this year. Thanks for reading and Happy New Year everyone!!

Hitman Tommy's 2014 Goals 4th Quarter Update

Well 2014 has come and gone. I don't know about you but it was an extremely quick year for me. Things were busy early in the year with the new baby and traveling out west for the Calgary Expo. The quick pace continued on into the summer and before we knew it, it was fall. By that point in time the amount of game hunting trips had been severely reduced for a few reasons. A: I have definitely narrowed my focus on what I want to purchase so most trips weren't netting very many titles. B: Tyson was preparing for the new addition to his family and C: We were devoting a lot more time to beer, chicken wings and the Two Crude Dudes Podcast. And of course December is a busy time of year for everyone and historically Tyson and I usually get together maybe once during the month.

Anyhow as the year has ended its time to see how I did with my goals for 2014 before I can look toward what 2015 will hopefully hold:

Goal #1: Increase NES Collection by 41 Cartridges

Progress: 45/41 = 109.76%

He did it! The sonuvabitch did it! The 41st NES cartridge of 2014 came at the Central Canada Comic Con at the end of October. Given how slow it had been getting those last few I thought that may have been it for the year. A small online purchase and a Boxing Day pick-up later I had exceeded my goal by four. This left my total NES cartridge total at 604 to end 2014. I'm extremely happy to have hit my goal and join the 600 Club. Looking back at the start of the year I was unsure if 41 was a good goal or not. By the end of 2013 I was already starting to come across less and less that I needed. At the same time all it would take is one good lot and 41 would take no time at all. I won't say yet what my goal for 2015 is but I think I have a rough idea in mind. All I'll say for now is:

In 2013 I joined the 500 Club. In 2014 I joined the 600 Club...... don't expect me to be hitting the 700 Club in 2015.

Goal #2: Spend more time with the Wii U

Progress: Goal Achieved

I declared this one complete previously. By the end of the 3rd quarter I had already logged 40+ hours of gaming on the Wii U. That had already doubled what I did in 2013 and I figured that might be it. However I got caught up in the craze that was Super Smash Bros which got me on a bit of a Wii U kick again at the end of November into December. After Smash Bros I sunk several hours into Rayman Legends just to try it out. I'll be going back to that title cause it was a lot of fun and very addictive. I then moved on to Super Mario 3D World as I picked it up last Boxing Week and hadn't even opened it. I blew through that in a couple days and for Christmas I got Captain Toad as a gift which I just started before New Years. So all together in December I probably logged another 20 hours of gametime putting me at roughly 60 for the year. Looking forward to keeping the Wii U train going in 2015.

Goal #3: Complete 5 Xbox 360 Games

Progress: 2/5 = 40%

FAIL!! Last time I was discussing that I had restarted Borderlands 2. I think that lasted for about 3 days after my last update. I put about 15 hours into a replay of it but was just having trouble getting really into it. I think part of the problem is that I had played about 40 hours of it the first time before I quit so going through parts that I already have played just didn't hold up for me. Past that I played a couple hours of some XBLA games but really nothing of any merit.

Goal #4: Get the last two issues of OPM
Progress: 0/2 = 0%
Honestly never looked in the last couple months but I did a quick search as I typed this and as suspected there were no copies of either issue that I need on eBay. I think this one will go on the back burner for next year.

Goal #5: Devote more time to the Blog
Progress: Goal Achieved
This one I'm going to count as a win. Going back and looking I blogged a few less times this year but we put together 8 episodes of the Two Crude Dudes Podcast in 2014 all together totaling roughly 20 hours of content. That combined with the blogs I did have a chance to write did require a decent amount of time in 2014. 2015 should be another good one, it will probably start off a bit slow. Tyson is occupied with the new family addition but rest assured we will continue provide consistent content throughout the year. Maybe we'll finally get the YouTube channel off the ground, or maybe even update our god awful Facebook page.

There is it that was my 2014 goals. Overall not bad but definitely gave me some insight to what I want to accomplish in 2015. I should be back with my 2015 goals in the next day or two. In the meantime check us out on social media
